Our Top 5 Things to See at SDCC ’16 – The Daily Quirk
Brace yourself, it’s July. You probably already knew that since hello, we’re halfway through July. Let me rephrase. Brace yourself, it’s July, AKA San Diego Comic-Con International is here. Can you believe it’s already that time of the year? Best believe The Daily Quirk will be on the floor reporting you all the latest news. Well, as much as we can, anyways. There’s always so much going on!
And with that said, here are five (Five! I know, it was hard to choose) things that we’re looking forward to seeing during this year’s Comic-Con!
Nickelodeon’s The Splat AKA HUGE Flashback Friday!
On Friday, July 22nd, Nickelodeon is storming back into our hearts with their salute to the 30th anniversary of Double Dare. At 9:30pm, head on over to The Splat’s Facebook Page for a complete LIVE edition of the historic game show with the original host in the flesh, Marc Summers. On the exhibition floor, let the nostalgia ring on as the Nickelodeon booth will be paying tribute to a few of their 90’s hit shows such as Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, Double Dare, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, CatDog, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Invader Zim!
Nerdist and Geek & Sundry’s Camp Conival
Returning for its third year to San Diego, Nerdist and Geek & Sundry will be taking over Petco Park to host Camp Conival which is described as “a trip back in time to everything that you loved about summer camp.” If you aren’t a fan of the long lines to panels nor do you have an actual badge to access the convention, this is a free event you HAVE to hit up. There will be panels and interviews with huge names in entertainment. Head to www.nerdist.com and www.geekandsundry.com for all information and scheduling deets!
MTV Fandom Awards
Another third year vet is MTV’s Fandom Awards taking place at Petco Park. 32 nominees will compete against each other to see who has the bigger “fandom.” And since Comic-Con is a huge center of fans coming together, what better place to have the Fandom Awards other than SDCC? If you remember, we were there the very first year it ever launched and we’ll be hitting the ground running again this year! The award show will air on Sunday, July 24 at 8PM ET/PT on MTV.
DC Entertainment Superheroes Galore
With Suicide Squad in attendance and the celebration of Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary, DC Entertainment is winning in the superhero category. With so much hype around the Suicide Squad movie, we’re crossing our fingers that the DC Gods will bless us with a sneak peek of the Justice League movie.
Television Panels and Pilots
San Diego Comic-Con is the mecca for new television. The convention helps create a buzz on new shows thanks to media outlets’ reviews. From NBC’s Powerless to Starz’ American Gods, this event is the perfect time to get the word about your show just before it premieres in the Fall.
